Geat food, interesting space (love the table linens), and excellent service. The menu is wide ranging and the servings are generous. Not inexpensive but tasty. I always, always order the home cut and hand breaded fried onion rings, a clear family fav and clearly the best such in Central Illinois. Steak, shrimp, hot ham and cheese sandwichs as week day specials, it is all good. Many friends love the burgers and sweet potatoe fries or the hot spinach-artichoke dip. Did I mention that the service is personal and outstanding?

My husband and I visited for the first time on Valentine’s Day. Despite being very busy, the service was good, food was fast, and the staff seemed to be operating like a well-oiled machine. We shared the pickle fries, I ordered the marinated salmon, and my husband had a custom burger. Everything was delicious and so fresh. Days later, my husband is still raving about how great his burger was (both there and as leftovers since it was huge). My salmon was super flavorful and I loved the selection of sides. We live half way between Champaign and Bloomington so there are many options for nice restaurants, but this will be a new regular spot for us.

I just went to Chop House on Main for my birthday dinner. I had read the reviews, and most were very good. However, restaurant reviews more so than others, tend to be extremely subjective. I am rather picky when it comes to restaurant selections, but the emergence of a relatively new local restaurant peaked my interest. Entering the Chop House, we were immediately impressed by the ambience. So many new restaurants, for some unknown reason, like to mimic the bright white lighting found in big box stores, not warm and not comfortable. We found Chop House on Main cozy, welcoming, and warmly lit. The restaurant is also perfectly decorated, reminiscent of an earlier era with exposed brick and classic wood trim. We started the night with Cosmopolitans which were well balanced. Not too sweet and just the right amount of strong. As for the food, the onion ring appetizer was outstanding. We loved the homemade breading and the horseradish sauce. My salad with blue cheese dressing was also perfect. The dressing did not taste mass produced and was right on. The salmon my date ordered was one of the best, if not the best I’ve had at a restaurant. For myself, I ordered the ribeye, something I rarely do since that cut of beef is fatty by design in order to attain the incredible flavor for which it is known. I usually don’t order it because it often turns out to have too much fat and more gristle than is acceptable. This night however, I threw caution to the wind! The result… I was pleasantly surprised! it was delicious and filling! The final verdict? A great meal, great atmosphere, and great service! We will definitely be back! We are looking forward to trying other items on the menu and hanging out on the second floor which looks to be a great place to catch an Illini game! Job Well done, Chop House on Main!

So good!! We were looking for a steakhouse in Champaign, and ended up finding this place instead! I preferred it to the options in Champaign because it was a tad cheaper and better options. The atmosphere is super nice, staff is really friendly, and food was fantastic!

Overall a very enjoyable meal with friends, and would be suitable for family dinner or date night. Nice addition to mahomet. 1st and foremost a heads up highly recommend dining downstairs. For me the biggest reason is upstairs had a menu while decently sized menu with sandwhiches/burgers, and salad. Howber downstairs menu has that plus about a dozen or so dinner entrees (steak, seafood, chops ect). For myself i think both the food and service were very good. Our waitress was attentive and our meals delicious. My friends and I shared the crabcakes, smothered chicken, and ribey for entrees plus two appetizers. Everything was cooked as requested and juicy. If we had any criticism they were minor and a matter of personal preference. The burger/sandwiches average around 17ishand most of their dinner entrees are between 20-40 depending (chicken lower beef higher). For 2 appetizers, 3 entrees, 5 cocktails/beer it costed us around 150. Definitely more expensive then someplace likr Applebee's but I don't feel like it was outrageous for the amount of food and the quality plus locally owned.

The ChopHouse on Main provides a more formal sit-down atmosphere on the first floor and causal dining on the second floor. Providing different atmospheres from formal date night to a fun friends night out. But, it was all topped off by the great food and fantastic service!! If you have any room left for desert, check out The Main Scoop ice cream parlor next door!

Great food, drinks, atmosphere and portions! Make reservations as this small place fills up fast (there are some seats available at the bar but it too fills quickly). Crab cakes were really good, as were the steaks (Ribeyes done a perfect medium rare), drinks, and desert. Wine bottles were reasonably priced and the historic old building has lots of character.
